We can see why Fury would reach out to her as a last desperate hope in the wake of Thanos' "snappening" at the end of "Infinity War".
Following a first-look trailer made available mid-September, this second preview unfurls a little more of air force fighter pilot Carol Danvers, her mysterious past, and her utility to a government official named Nick Fury.
"This war, it's just the beginning", Talos says with a deep and threatening tone, while also hinting at something much bigger than the fight between the two alien races. While there aren't any additional details on the film yet, fans will be able to admire Captain Marvel in paper form until the premiere date.
While the fate of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the Avengers hangs in the balance, Marvel will go back in time to reveal the origin story of one of its most powerful characters. Annette Bening appears as the Kree who rescued Danvers so she could live "longer, stronger, superior". I couldn't help but suspect that Marvel added a shot of Carol smiling early in this trailer to counteract all the dumb calls for a smiling Captain Marvel after the first trailer.
In particular, we get a better look at Carol Danvers' - aka Captain Marvel's - backstory. "And you're a Kree", Fury asks, "a race of noble warriors?"
Captain Marvel is directed by the team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Jac Schaeffer. I wonder what happened to her to place her with the Kree in the first place or give her powers?
Captain Marvel soars into theaters March 8, 2019.
The second poster for the film has also been released, featuring the actress looking epic in her aforementioned suit.
