Diablo Immortal is the mobile Diablo game nobody asked for

Blizzard Entertainment is producing Diablo Immortal, a massively multiplayer online (MMO) action role-playing game for phones and tablets.

If you think I'm being a bit bombastic with my initial rhetoric over Diablo Immortal, the cinematic trailer above is now sitting at less than 5% likes at the time of this post going live.

Discover millions of player-created games, including tower defense, MOBAs, ARPGs, survival games, and more, or build your own with the upgraded World Editor.

If you are a fan of the Diablo series from Blizzard (now Blizzard/Activision) and have been hoping that maybe, some day, a full-featured game would land on iOS devices in the future, that wait is nearly over. With the game planning to be expanded through live-content patches, Blizzard confirmed that they will be adding more classes over time.

Each class will have a set of 12 or more skills with the number varying from class to class.

As for how Diablo Immortal fits into the greater Diablo universe, the mobile game will take place in the years between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. It later clarified that it wouldn't "be ready to announce all of our projects", but many players still believe that building all that hype and then unveiling a mobile game is "disrespectful"-especially to those that paid to attend". Through Westmarch, players will visit 9 different outdoor zones, hunting corrupted fragments of the Worldstone and the demons left in their wake.

"Mobile technology today supports the kinds of AAA gaming experiences Blizzard is known for", Cheng said of the decision to bring Diablo to mobile.

The opening day of BlizzCon is upon us and Blizzard has surprised the entire Diablo fanbase with a new announcement.

Announcements of a brand-new, smartphone-only Diablo and a remastered WarCraft 3 headlined a news-filled BlizzCon keynote presentation on Friday. Online play will use a modified version of Blizzard's Battle.net interface.

Six iconic and highly customizable Diablo character classes will be available in Diablo Immortal-Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, and Wizard-each with new powers and abilities, with more playable classes planned for future updates. As a matter of fact, Android users can now pre-register via Google Play Store to receive special rewards and be among the first to experience Diablo Immortal.
