We knew already that the Saints are looking hard at cornerbacks throughout the league, so here's four names to follow in case a big move for Peterson doesn't materialize before next Tuesday's trade deadline.
Peterson has asked that he be traded by the October 30 trade deadline, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday via Twitter. Last Thursday, Cardinals President Michael Bidwill shot down those rumors and continued to tell the media that the Cardinals will not trade Peterson.
It does not come as a surprise that Peterson wants out of Arizona, as this season has been a disaster.
There are two players in particular who could make sense as trade targets for Tampa Bay: Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson, and Oakland Raiders safety Karl Joseph. In fact, if the Steelers made a deal for Peterson, it could prompt them to rescind the franchise tag from Le'Veon Bell.
Through seven games this season, the Cardinals are 1-6 but they'll get a rare opportunity for a win on Sunday as they host the equally inept San Francisco 49ers.
Peterson has two interceptions, three pass deflections, a fumble recovery, a sack, and 35 tackles in his seven starts for Arizona.
The trade deadline is one week away.
Apparently, the rumors got into Peterson's head as well. For those who are unaware, McFadden and Peterson are actually cousins. They could ask him to honor his current contract.
