30 people hurt after floor collapse in Clemson

Witnesses said the party at the event space of an apartment complex was just getting started when the floor collapsed. Police say none of the injuries were life threatening.

Clemson police received a call around 12:30 a.m. reporting the collapse at the Woodlands of Clemson Apartment, police Chief Jimmy Dixon told FOX Carolina.

'It was a lot to take in'. The center of the floor at a clubhouse collapsed into the basement, police said.

30 people were split between 3 hospitals with broken bones and lacerations.

Part of the clubhouse floor collapsed into the building's basement as attendees were dancing in unison, Woodlands Property Management President Tal Slann told CNN.

"Everyone was jumping. The beat was about to drop and then the whole floor collapsed", Clemson sophomore Larissa Stone told the Anderson Independent Mail. "Everyone was trying to climb out".

As a crowded group of Clemson University students and local residents danced and jumped around at an apartment clubhouse, Jeremy Tester felt something odd beneath his feet. "People are under other people". "I can tell you there was a party". The Clubhouse and pool area is OFF LIMITS to all. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were injured and we apologize for any inconvenience".

Clemson police are conducting an investigation into the collapse. Reports say many people were taken to local hospitals with injuries but none were considered life-threatening.
