Sporting world stunned as boxer signs richest deal in history

Boxer Canelo Alvarez Inks $365 Million Contract With Streaming Network DAZN, Richest Deal in the History of Sports

Canelo Alvarez signs record-breaking $365 million deal with DAZN

"It's very important for me to finish this year off strong", he told SN.

Canelo's move to DAZN occurs at an uncertain, transitionary time for the sport of boxing.

HBO had the right of first negotiation and a last-look provision for the upcoming fight in NY, but after DAZN threw down its bid, the premium cable channel backed off. Álvarez is a part of Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, and the organization has had a long relationship with HBO.

Mayweather hasn't fought since August 2017, when he beat UFC superstar Conor McGregor via 10th-round TKO in their much-hyped boxing superfight.

If he defeats Fielding - as expected - who's to say Alvarez can't go back down to 160 and thoroughly wipe out the slate, whether that includes Jacobs, a Jermall Charlo (once he comes off his suspension) and "GGG", who Canelo spoke with DAZN earlier about facing in a possible trilogy. "By bringing Canelo's fights to DAZN, we will turn his pay-per-view success into a growth engine for subscribers - a truly transformational moment for our business and the entire industry".

Alvarez, 28, is from Mexico.

ESPN, Turner Sports and Showtime were all thought to be major contenders for the boxer's signature after his deal with HBO finished after the second Golovkin match-up.

"We're living a new era in every sense". The signing of Alvarez kicks off the DAZN-boxing partnership with an exclamation point and plenty of zeroes. Additionally, Golden Boy Media and Entertainment will produce volumes of shoulder programs for the DAZN platform, including live studio shows such as "Between the Ropes" and its award winning "Mano a Mano". He's going to fight boxing's bull to the best of his ability. The new partnership between DAZN and Golden Boy allow this vision to flourish and to create narratives that appeal across demographic categories worldwide.

DAZN charges its subscribers United States dollars 9.99 per month for a range of combat sports content. The fight was the last of his broadcast deal with HBO, who recently announced they'll be exiting the boxing game after several decades.
