"Basically, he appears to have suffered from a medical emergency while on the balcony", Lebanon Chief of Police Aaron Lauth told People magazine.

Police arrived at around 7:30 assist the injured crew member after an on-set nurse and other members tried to help him.

James Emswiller was on a break between scenes on Thursday when he fell over a brick wall on an apartment building balcony, falling two storeys.

Sound technician James Emswiller has died after falling from a balcony on the set of the Tom Hanks-starring Mister Rogers movie. During the break, Emswiller went out to take a smoke break on a second-story balcony when people heard a noise, soon realizing he had fallen two stories.

Sony Pictures and TriStar Pictures have issued a statement regarding Emswiller's death. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim's loved ones, friends, and colleagues", the studio said. Hanks was reportedly on set at the time of the accident.

The accompanying caption reads: Tom Hanks is Mister Rogers, coming to a neighborhood near you October 2019.

According to his entry on IMDB, Emswiller's previous credits include sound mixing work for film and TV productions such as The Avengers, Jack Reacher, The Fault in Our Stars and Bessie, for which he won an Emmy in 2015.

Rogers was an American television personality, musician, puppeteer, writer, producer, and Presbyterian minister. Hanks is playing Rogers in the film. Rogers died in in 2003. The show is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with Morgan Neville's documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor' premiering at the Sundance film festival".
