Chicago Cubs vs. Colorado Rockies in NL Wild Card Game: Time, TV schedule, game preview, score

Rockies Win NL Wild Card, Beat Cubs 2-1

He started the Cubs' last Wild Card Game and will be making his 22nd postseason start against the Rockies.

Getting a little nervous, Cubs fans? But you have to see all the positives that happened this year, too.

But when Almora followed with an inning-ending strikeout, the flickering continued.

The Rockies managed it in large part thanks to pitcher Kyle Freeland, who hurled six and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball on just three days' rest. Previously, the longest winner-take-all games in the postseason were 12-inning affairs in the 2014 AL wild-card round and Game 7 of the 1924 World Series.

"We didn't make it easy on ourselves, that's for sure", Story said, "but we're going to enjoy this one tonight and we're definitely not done".

He'll be welcomed by an experienced Cubs bunch that includes NL RBI leader Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo, who has been hitting just under.320 since June 26. "Even when we're struggling, we are the head of everybody".

His lone walk cost him the only run he allowed. This was really a stellar year but to think the Cubs could continue to limp deep into the playoffs, with no real closer, a healing Pedro Strop, a hesitant Kris Bryant, and two of the five starting pitchers from the beginning of the season completely out of the picture, well, it wasn't likely. Nolan Arenado then hit a sacrifice fly to put the Rockies up 1-0. However, Adam Ottavino struck out Jason Heyward to end the threat.

After the double, Lester retired 18 of the final 21 batters he faced, including seven more strikeouts. MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi reported earlier today, however, that a contract extension doesn't appear to be coming in the near future, nor have Maddon's representatives recently inquired about a new deal with Cubs management.
