It was the body language of a exhausted, defeated golfer. The Europeans were treated like rock stars before more than 50,000 fans.

Woods spoke to reporters on Saturday, talking about how frustrated he was with his 0-3 start at the Ryder Cup.

Francesco Molinari, the 2018 Open Champion, secured the winning point as Europe regained the Ryder Cup with victory over the United States in France. The match was all square going to the final hole.

The Ryder Cup is finishing up on NBC.

Thomas was one of few bright spots for the USA, as the 25-year-old went 4-1 in his Ryder Cup debut.

But that proved merely the scene-setter for Garcia, who settled it on the 17th by draining a superb, sliding 20-footer for a birdie to send the packed galleries ballistic. "You want to make the team and you want to contribute".

There was no fairytale comeback for Tiger Woods, however, on his return after missing the last two Ryder Cups as he and Patrick Reed lost 3 and 1 to Molinari and Fleetwood. The new partnership didn't fare any better than the first one.

Recap: Consecutive birdies on the back nine gave Koepka the lead, but Casey fought back with a birdie on the 17th hole to earn the half-point.

It left Garcia tantalizingly short of the one point required to take his tally past the 25 of all-time Ryder Cup points record scorer Nick Faldo.

"We've got some work to do", Woods said. "I thought we played great all day but they started coming hard at us in the last few holes". Tiger's loss on Sunday tied him with Phil Mickelson for the most losses in Ryder Cup history at 21, but then Phil lost and took that honor back.

"Early in the week, he looked a little exhausted".

Webb Simpson and Tony Finau, the lone bright spot among the wild-card picks for US captain Jim Furyk, won easily.

"So I was waiting for the right moment, and I think to win the match this afternoon, it felt like the right time".

"I've seen too many times what the singles game does", Bjorn said.

"It's been a long grind, " Woods said in a brief interview with ESPN.com.

His mindset is another issue.

Molinari (who almost had a hole in one at one point) and Fleetwood fired up the team and the crowd at Le Golf National just outside Paris. "We used a lot of energy these days".

Woods was unlucky in some respects - being partnered with a totally out-of-sorts Reed, and also being drawn against the red-hot Molinari and Fleetwood duo three times.

The Americans have not won a Ryder Cup match in Europe since 1993.

You wouldn't have known any of this was happening if you just watched Woods play this weekend, though. "When it was there for us, Europe played really well". We ran up against two guys that were both playing well.

"He made birdies when I wasn't even in the holes".

"The whole team has been part of this".

Another still looms over Woods, dragging him down.
