Bill Cosby was sentenced to no less than three years and up to a maximum of 10 years in prison today following an April conviction on three counts of aggravated indecent assault of Andrea Constand. It took more than a decade, two trials and dozens of accusers to seal his fate. "Police officers, lay people, they're not allowed to tell you their opinion", the judge said. Sheriff's deputies escorted Cosby out of the courtroom as he clutched a wooden cane with both hands.
Cosby's official inmate number is NN7687.
"This was not pointed out to the jury or allowed in court because the racist and sexist mass media was attacking and denouncing Dr. Cosby whenever his lawyers even hinted there was racism and sexism present", he added.
He did not say a word. Wyatt continued on, comparing Cosby's trial to Brett Kavanaugh's hearings and claiming that there is a "sex war" against these men. Neither were his children.
The prison is brand new after opening in July and can house up to 3,830 inmates.
"This was a serious crime", Judge Steven O'Neill said after the verdict was read.
On how Cosby is doing: "Mr. Cosby knows that God is watching over him". He quoted from victim Andrea Constand's statement submitted to the court, in which she said Cosby took her "beautiful, young spirit and crushed it".
Cosby declined the opportunity to speak before the sentence came down, and afterward sat laughing and chatting with his defense team. S***, I would actually be scared to say something because his entire life he has been put in such a positive light.
"Bill Cosby is out of options", said veteran Pennsylvania prosecutor Jarrett Ferentino, who wasn't involved in the case. "Evidence is overwhelming that it was planned predation", O'Neill said during the sentencing before saying that Cosby would be classified as a "sexually violent predator" on sex offender registries, undergo lifetime counseling and regularly report to law enforcement.
Constand testified that Cosby gave her what she thought were herbal pills to ease stress, then penetrated her with his fingers as she lay immobilized on a couch. His wife of 54 years, Camille, was not in court.
Constand's case was the only one that was within the statute of limitations.
A first criminal trial against Cosby ended in a hung jury. Cosby was found guilty and on Tuesday was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
The prosecutors who tried Cosby say they are confident the conviction will stand.
But "now, finally, Bill Cosby has been unmasked, and we have seen the real man as he is headed off to prison". "He robbed me of my health and vitality, my open nature and my trust in myself and others", she wrote in the impact statement.
A prison spokesperson at the time said "all property discrepancies are being reviewed and are in the process of being resolved".
