"Joker." Opening on a makeup/wardrobe test slate that describes the look as "full white", the footage first shows Phoenix's Arthur standing in a mustard yellow jacket, his hands in his pockets and his disheveled half-mullet hair-do hanging around his unassuming but clearly tired face.

Director and writer Todd Phillips posted a new camera test video with sound on his Instagram, which reveals Joaquin Phoenix's Joker makeup. Warner Bros. Pictures also tweeted out the short video.

With a dark background and a generally greenish tint to the whole screen, it could be easy to miss in the half-second flashes of the Jokerized Phoenix, but a close look at the image shows that the green hair is as much a part of his clown makeup as the red smile. The song from "The Guess Who" is a cool way to convey that the film will be a period piece, and Phoenix looks quite unhinged both pre and post-transformation.

An image of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker has been revealed for the first time. We got a look at the actor in character as pre-Joker "Arthur" earlier in the week.

The film will look at the Joker's origins, with his name being Arthur Fleck.

Co-stars include Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham. Phillips' exploration of a man disregarded by society is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
