Rapper Mac Miller dies of apparent overdose

"He was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew, "the rapper wrote on Twitter".

Chance the Rapper said he was speechless after learning about Miller's death and recalled a time the young rapper essentially took him under his wing.

"I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they have to be", Grande tweeted.

The tragic news comes just months after he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and hit and run in the Los Angeles area shortly after his breakup from pop singer Ariana Grande in May. Great man. I loved him for real.

WESA's Katie Blackley confirmed with the L.A. County coroner that Miller died Friday, and the cause of death was not confirmed. The talented Pittsburg rapper tragically died on September 7 after reportedly overdosing, the world learned, and it left his fans and colleagues absolutely devastated. His first studio album, "Blue Slide Park", was released in 2011.

The two dated from 2016 until May 2018, with Grande revealing weeks later that she was in a relationship with Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson.

"I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us".

Mac Miller's musical career is marked by a restless artistic evolution, beginning with the frat-rap sound of his earliest mixtapes through to the funk and jazz-soaked hip hop and collaborations of his final two albums.

Miller told Noisy that he started abusing drugs when he was just 15-years-old, and that he had a serious issue with Lean, otherwise known as purple drank or lean drink.

Reps for Miller did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
