CBS 8 in San Diego reports that the shooting occurred toward the end of the race day as fans were transitioning to attend a free Ice Cube concert at the Del Mar Fairgrounds that was part of an ongoing summer concert series in tandem with horse races. No one was hit, but San Diego Sheriff's deputies returned fire and Elizarraras went down. From the video, the armed man, identified as 22-year-old Daniel Elizarraras can be seen pointing his gun in the air before firing off two shots.

Del Mar's official Twitter account said at 6:37 p.m. PT that the concert was officially "sold out".

Daniel Elizarraras, 22, from Escondido, was told that the show was sold out at around 6:40 p.m. on September 2, after which he got into an argument, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Homicide Unit.

"An argument ensued and nearby deputies responded", she said.

Large number of spectators attended the race over the holiday weekend for an event held by United States rapper Ice Cube.

It has been reported by several local news outlets that a sheriff's deputy was shot but no civilians were injured in the incident.

It appears no one else was hurt, the department said.

The man had been trying to buy a ticket to the concert featuring the rapper Sunday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, the department said in a statement.

No further details were immediately available.

Shots have been fired at Del Mar racecourse, with gunfire heard as horses were crossing the finish line in the final race of the day. "We will continue to fully cooperate with the Sherriff's Department in their investigation and will refer all questions concerning the incident to them", the statement continued.
