The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 20 September 2018.

Bafana Bafana's poor ranking has been highlighted in recent weeks following the move of Percy Tau from Mamelodi Sundowns to English Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion and his subsequent inability to get a work permit in that country‚ which has seen him loaned out to the second-tier in Belgium.

The recently concluded 2018 Soccer World Cup - where France were crowned champions - has left its mark on the latest Federation Internationale de Football Association world rankings.

The main change is that rankings points gained are now added to / subtracted to the team's total rather than averaged.

There is little movement from teams who were not present at the World Cup with Wales moving down one place to 19th, Northern Ireland up two places to 27th and Scotland also up two places to 40th.

France (1st, up 6) provide the headline news, as they have reclaimed pole position for the first time in over 16 years, returning to a spot they last held in May 2002.

The Croatian side who knocked England out in the semi-finals are one of the most significant movers as they rise from 20th to fourth, their joint-highest ranking of all time.

Previous champion Germany's surprise elimination from the group stage dropped it from first to 15th.
