Benjamin had plenty to say in an interview that came out last Saturday, calling his tenure in Carolina a "bad fit from the get-go" and speculating he might have been more successful had he played with "any other quarterback".
Benjamin subsequently walked away from Newton, and now he explained why he did that. Newton followed, trying to catch up, before seeming to give up. Is Benjamin right, or is he bitter about the trade that sent him to Buffalo?
"Moving on from it", Benjamin said repeatedly.
The Carolina Panthers opened the 2018 preseason with a 28-23 victory over their cousins from up north, the Buffalo Bills. Benjamin saved his best compliment for young Damiere Byrd, though.
Newton declined to speak to reporters after the game, but Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis, who was talking with Benjamin before Newton arrived, said of the brush-up: "Just brothers having a conversation, that's really all it was".
Neither will get the opportunity to hash things out since the two teams do not face each other in the upcoming season.
