Days earlier, Super Smash Bros. fans got an announcement of a new Nintendo Direct primarily focused on Ultimate.

Luigi first appeared in the original Mario Bros arcade game in 1983, and has since been a vital part of most Super Mario franchises, including Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Mario Tennis and Mario Party.

Simon's signature stage is Dracula's Castle, which includes cameos from all the series' most iconic bosses, including, naturally enough, Dracula himself.

The Direct ended for the day with a final trailer, announcing the arrival of Donkey Kong's arch-rival, King K. Rool. Fire Emblem's Chrom will be an echo of Lucina, whilst Dark Samus will echo Samus.

The game will feature 103 stages, or 100 if Battlefield/Big Battlefield/Final Destination are excluded, and all stages are unlocked from the start.

Ultimate include Zero from the Mega Man X series, Knuckles from Sonic The Hedgehog, Krystal from Star Fox Adventures, Rathalos from the Monster Hunter series, Shovel Knight from, well, Shovel Knight and the evil Moon from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. That means it's best to take this with a slight pinch of salt until we get a proper look at the game. This single-player mode is pretty straightforward, as it simply challenges players to fight through a line up of different characters, culminating with a fight against Master Hand (or at least that's the way it's worked in previous games). Ultimate's Training mode will come with a grid overlay, allowing you to easily determine ranges on abilities.
