Trump says only "FAKE NEWS" is the "enemy of the people"

Ivanka Trump said Thursday that she does not agree with her father's characterization of the media as "the enemy of the people" and that she was "vehemently against" separating children from parents at the border, calling that a low point of her White House tenure. But she is very, very opposed to it, yet not opposed enough to leave the administration, even as hundreds of children remain separated, and not opposed enough to depart from an administration in which officials were directly warned of the potential for significant, lasting psychological harm to the children - and those same officials remain in their jobs.

She went on to say that "immigration is incredibly complex as a topic". She added that "we have to be careful about incentivizing behavior that puts children at risk", by encouraging unsafe journeys across the border.

The exchange came hours after the president's eldest daughter and adviser, Ivanka Trump, said in an interview that she does not view the news media as "the enemy of the people", breaking with her father.

The president's hardline policy led to the separation of thousands of children from their parents.

Ivanka Trump on Thursday said she does not believe the press is the "enemy of the people", going against public statements made by her father regarding the media.

"I´m here to speak on behalf of the president", White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters, as she declined to reject Trump´s "enemy of the people" sobriquet.

President Trump has tweeted this label about media he considers to be "fake news". These aren't easy issues, these are incredibly hard issues, and like the rest of the country, I experience them in a very emotional way'.

"These are not easy issues", Trump said, adding irregular migration poses several safety risks for children. "I moved here and I haven't exercised in like a year and it's total chaos".

"That was a low point for me", she said.

Trump discussed new personal habits that she has recently cultivated to improve herself. "I think anybody with a heart would feel very strongly about it", Trump said.

"I´m really passionate about the work that I´m doing here and I´m really committed to it", she said Thursday.
