Arsenal's Petr Cech celebrates saving a penalty taken by Chelsea's Ruben Loftus Cheek during the penalty shootout

Kanu was one of several symbols of the attractive brand of football Emery's predecessor Arsene Wenger encouraged during his near-22-year reign as manager, but the Nigerian believes a return to their previous, more pragmatic approach would also help.

Unai Emery's first competitive match as manager comes against reigning champions Manchester City on August 12, and in his first season in England he will be expected to lead his new team back into the Champions League.

Cech impressed in Arsenal's 1-1 draw with his former club Chelsea in Dublin on Wednesday, saving a penalty from Alvaro Morata during the game and another in the ensuing shootout that the Gunners won, but he remains locked in a battle with newcomer Bernd Leno for the No. 1 spot.

For Emery it's very important he knows the club in and out, what the club wants.

Kanu, who played for Arsenal between 1999 and 2004, is hoping that Aubameyang can build on in his first full season and spearhead the team in their pursuit of the championship.

"I am very, very concentrated and my focus is thinking every day for the training, for the players". Last season was his first season; now he has adjusted to the Premier League.

"I think my opinion is clear, I want him to be with us, but then it's one question for the player and the club".

After watching Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere run down their contract and ultimately leave the club, Gooners are concerned Ramsey will do the same.

"At the moment, I'm very happy with the players that are here with us", Emery said.

"He has a pain in his muscle and we decided not to start him. I think not a big problem".

"We also have others still to come, like Nacho Monreal, Lucas and [Granit] Xhaka, who will start to get minutes on Saturday". We have some players missing but we are in a good place.
