It may have lacked star power, but the 2018 Home Run Derby didn't lack drama or excitement.
The Home Run Derby winner's wife, Kayla - among others - brought this to the internet's attention. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics and moved on to play for the Midland RockHounds in 2013 through 2014.
The Cubs outfielder went first in the final round and had 18 home runs.
Hoskins advanced to the semifinals of the eight-hitter field, knocking off Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jesus Aguilar, 17-12, in the first round.
Bryce Harper is a hometown hero.
Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals Chicago Cubs has won the 2018 Home Run Derby with a grand total of 45 homers throughout the night. Each round, players will be given four minutes to hit as many home runs as possible. Harper then hit the winning home run on the second pitch during his extra time. He put on a show, hitting homers to the second and even third deck at Nationals Park. If Harper goes yard during the All-Star Game, the Nationals said they will release more $1 tickets.
The most thrilling first-round match featured a near buzzer-beater by Houston's Alex Bregman, who fell to Schwarber 16-15. Hoskins opened by blasting 20 homers, the highest number that had been hit to that point.
Harper, Báez and Aguilar will both follow up their Home Run Derby appearances with positions on the National League's All-Star team.
Overall, Schwarber hit 55 home runs on the night, launching several of those over 440 feet.
