In screenshots of a now-deleted tweet from Mr Musk's verified account at the weekend, he said he would make a video of his mini-submarine going into the caves, adding: "Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it".

If you're already acquainted with Musk and his freaky entanglement with the Thai cave story, you may skip to the end of this report for a fuller accounting of his baseless pedophilia accusations.

He had said in an earlier interview with CNN that Musk's miniature escape pod "had absolutely no chance of working".

Elon Musk is taking heat for controversial comments he made against a diver who assisted in the Thai cave rescue.

Claus Rasmussen, a Danish national and diving instructor in Thailand, called the allegations "inappropriate" and praised Unsworth's role in the rescue. "It wouldn't have made the first 50 meters into the cave from the dive start point".

He can "stick his submarine where it hurts", Unsworth said during the interview in Thailand.

Unsworth says he felt "astonished and very angry" at the attack and told The Guardian that he would consider legal action. Musk struck back on Twitter, suggesting that Unsworth, a British national living in a country infamous for sex tourism, is a pedophile.

"He's just a PR stunt merchant - that's all he is", Unsworth said. "Yes, it's not finished", Unsworth told Australian outlet Channel 7, per BBC News.

Vern Unsworth, a British cave explorer based in Thailand, helped rescuers navigate the complex Tham Luang cave system where the boys and their coach were trapped for more than two weeks beginning in June.

The entrepreneur doubled down on his claim, tweeting from his official account to more than 22 million followers: "Bet ya a signed dollar it's true". "I don't know the guy, never met the guy, and don't want to meet the guy", he said.

At time of publication, Tesla traded down 3.7 percent at a rate of $307.02.

Last week, Musk also took to Twitter to pledge to help Flint, Mich., residents affected by the city's water crisis, replying to a user that he would commit to "fund fixing the water in any house in Flint that has water contamination above FDA levels".

Representatives for Musk didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
