Kate and Meghan to have girls day out at Wimbledon to cheer Serena Williams

She knew exactly what to expect - and what to do - against Serena Williams. She won four major tournaments in a row and came close to a calendar-year Grand Slam.

Angelique Kerber has taken the first set 6-3 against Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final. "I think that was part of what I had to learn after 2016, a process I had to go through".

Meghan last watched her friend in 2016, and may have sat on the same court as her future sister-in-law, as Catherine and William also attended that year.

The pair arrived for the resumption of the men's semi-final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic ahead of Williams' bid to win her eighth Wimbledon title.

For a start, Williams was unable to dominate her opponent in the customary manner she deals with others.

"Angelique played out of her mind".

However, to numerous viewers, "all that she can be" is more than enough.

Serena Williams of the USA returns a ball to Angelique Kerber of Germany during the women's singles final match at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, in London, July 14, 2018.

Kerber addressed Williams during the on-court interviews, saying: "You're such an inspiration for everybody, for all of us". I'm really, really sure. "I couldn't even walk to my mailbox, so it's definitely not normal for me to be in a Wimbledon final".

Kerber avenged her defeat against Williams in the 2016 Wimbledon title match, overwhelming the seven-time champion with a stunning 65-minute upset on Centre Court. That was part of a run in which she dropped 8 of 9 points.

Angelique Kerber (GER) poses with the trophy on day 12 at All England Lawn and Croquet Club. There are no holes. Kerber would bend real low, even putting a knee right on the grass to get a ball back. Before, she was playing for every girl that's dreamed of picking up a racket.

Kerber is much more than a defender. "It came from the palace that she is coming on Saturday". I look forward to continuing to being back out here and doing what I do best'.

Kerber was broken only once.

Williams fought back hard to cut the deficit, making the score 3-2 to her advantage.

After winning her semifinal against Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-3, Kerber was asked what she sees across the net when she goes up against Williams. Now, she's playing for anyone that's ever been a mom. It is obviously disappointing but I can not be disappointed.

Wimbledon Patron, Kate, cheered on Serena Williams with the tennis star's friend Meghan at the Ladies Singles final.

Golf legend, Tiger Woods, Racing driver Lewis Hamilton and fashion maven Anna Wintour were also in Williams' box for championship day.

"We've always had a wonderful friendship", Williams told Entertainment Tonight earlier this week. "I knew that I have to take my first chance because you never know with Serena", she said.
