Wimbledon 2018 -- Kevin Anderson wins men's semifinal match

Juan Martin del Potro

Del Potro reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2013

"It took me two or three months and that was frustrating that I wasn't able to perform the game that I was used to and the level of tennis I wanted to play. That's a big thing", Nadal said ahead of his first last-four appearance at The All England Club since losing the title match to Djokovic seven years ago. However, I am utterly shocked that the markets are finding it hard to split Nadal and today's opponent, Novak Djokovic, for the second semi-final, which will commence no earlier than 1500 United Kingdom time.

In their illustrious careers, they have played some hard-fought battles.

Nadal mentioned he wasn't aware of Federer's struggles against Kevin Anderson at the time, but said unfortunately that's the reality of the sport. His performance matched his ideal season as he won his third Grand Slam of the calendar year.

Rafale Nadal needed five sets to beat Juan Martin del Potro at 2018 Wimbledon on Wednesday and advance to the semi-finals. "The goal is to come back next year".

Baseline confidence Rafael Nadal is super confident after his success on clay, winning his 11th French Open title, and now he is playing a lot better on grass.

Both men are in the semifinals at Wimbledon for the first time. He came back strongly in the third set to win 6-1 and then world number one Djokovic kept his nerves to tie the match in the fourth set.

Anderson became the first South African male to reach the final since 1921 with a 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-7 (9), 6-4, 26-24 victory on Centre Court.

Surprisingly, it wasn't the longest match in Wimbledon history. "In some ways he deserves to go through too", Nadal told the BBC after the match.

He'll need to get past Nadal first.

A match which has gone down in the record books as the longest Grand Slam final, lasting five hours and 53 minutes - and finishing at 1.37am - before Djokovic prevailed. And while many will be mourning the absence of a Federer-Nadal final, this more than fills the hole.

Djokovic is the bookies' favourite to lift the trophy on Sunday, and the way he decimated Kyle Edmund, Karen Khachanov and Kei Nishikori in the last three rounds underlines why.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Djokovic took to his Instagram account to show what he is up to in the locker room.

"I think I won the best point of the match", Del Potro said of his small consolation.

Nadal started strong on serve to power his way into a 3-2 lead during the opening set.
