"Sources tell Variety that "Only the Brave" star Miles Teller has been tapped to play the son of Goose and Maverick's new protege in Paramount and Skydance's "Top Gun: Maverick", the sequel to the 1986 Cruise classic".
Last week we learned that three actors were up for the role of Goose's son in Joseph Kosinski's Top Gun: Maverick: Miles Teller, Nicolas Hoult and Glen Powell. The actress played Goose's partner in Top Gun, but has been selective about her on-screen appearances in the decades since her 80s and 90s heyday as America's Pixie-Cut Sweetheart.
Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled for release on July 12, 2019. Kosinski also worked with Teller on the firefighter film Only the courageous, where Teller starred alongside Josh Brolin, so it makes sense that Teller would be joining his latest production.
This latest project will be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters along with exploring the end of the era of dogfighting.
Glen reacted to the news that he lost the part on his Twitter account.
Miles Teller is feeling the need... the need for speed! Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise will produce the film, and Harold Faltermeyer, the composer who created Top Gun's memorable theme music, is also returning to the production. Maybe, I'll leave one.
Tom Cruise, 56, will reprise his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell from the 1986 film that also starred Anthony Edwards, 55, as his co-pilot Nick "Goose" Bradshaw. Two for symmetry. Okay, the posters are staying.
