A Phoenix-area pup is being deemed a "hero" for saving his owner from being bit by a rattlesnake during a hike over the weekend.

According to AZ Family, Paula Goodwin was walking with her dogs in Anthem when she nearly stepped on a rattlesnake.

Heroes come in all shapes, sizes and species, as proven by Todd the Golden Retriever.

In an interview with Phoenix's FOX10-TV, Godwin said that immediately following the bite, she rushed Todd back down the hill and took him to an animal shelter and treated with anti-venom.

Speaking in a video shared in the aftermath of the bite, Paula explained: "He for sure saved me from getting bit".

Godwin says she and the young golden retriever were on a walk, when she almost stepped on the rattler. "This is what a hero looks like".

Paula had been all smiles previously sharing her walk with Todd on Facebook Live.

Godwin gave an update to Todd's fans Sunday and says her four-legged hero is healing.

"People from the Philippines have been contacting us with well wishes", she said.
