Yoel Romero Misses Weight (Again), But UFC 225 Main Event Still On

Yoel Romero Fails to Make Weight vs. Robert Whittaker, UFC 225 Not for Title

UFC 225 Full Official Weigh-in Video: Whittaker Makes the Mark; Romero Does Not

The big story thus far this week was the fact that Romero missed weight on Friday (June 8, 2018) for his rematch against UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in the main event of the upcoming UFC 225 pay-per-view event.

But Whittaker has agreed to save the main event and face him in a non-title bout. Romero knocked out Rockhold in the second round.

As a former Olympic wrestler, Romero shouldn't be having trouble making weight.

"There wouldn't be a fight", Whittaker said.

While Whittaker admits it's a "pain in the arse" to face the same man in consecutive fights, he is not one to pick and choose his opponents. Or really punish him for missing weight by pushing him down the line of contenders.

Romero was the last of the 26 fighters on the card to hit the scales in Chicago, where the UFC 225 event will take place on Sunday.

"I don't think he can change that drastically at his age and in this little amount of time before the fight", he said. But yeah, I just don't see it. Am I gonna get furious at you because you can't sit through a bad television show?

According to Okamoto, the UFC is now working with Romero and Whittaker's camps to try to keep the main event together. However, Romero is no longer eligible to win the title.

Explosive Sydney heavyweight Tai Tuivasa weighed in nearly five and a half kilos heavier than former world champion Andrei Arlovski.

Tuivasa, 25, who fought at UFC 221 in Perth, has won all of his fights by first-round knockout.
