Oh, don't forget the propositions.

Eight U.S. states are holding political party primary elections Tuesday, with the key contests in California, the western state that is the country's most populous.

But California's primary is the weirdest, and the thing that's getting the most attention is the possibility that Democrats will get "locked out" of certain US House races because of the state's "top two" primary system. Newsom and Cox stood at 34.2 percent and 26.5 percent, respectively.

New Jersey's 11th District is also one of the seats Inside Elections already predicts could flip in November.

But Republicans have their own top-two primary nightmare scenario: the humiliating prospect of having no GOP candidates at the top of the ticket - the governor's race or the U.S. Senate race - in November. Team Newsom begs to differ.

Iowa's registered Democrats, Libertarians and Republicans can head to the polls today to vote in the state's primary election. All three are former Republican bastions that have trended purple in recent years.

Democrats want to take back some control in the state during these midterm elections.

California elections are always expensive.

Significant contests also played out elsewhere on Tuesday. "He will make a BIG difference!"

Evelyn Corado, a 50-year-old preschool teacher from Huntington Beach and naturalized US citizen from El Salvador, chose Villaraigosa for governor. He is a former council member and Mayor of Iowa City. His campaign for governor has been backed heavily by billionaire charter school supporters, and he is a longtime proponent of the growth of charters in California.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and other national groups have spent millions of dollars trying to stave off a November shutout in the 49, 48, and 39 Congressional Districts. Her opponents raised roughly $600,000 combined.

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein is one of the few moderate Democrats up for reelection this year to face a serious primary challenge from the left.

Regardless of how the ballot is returned, it MUST be received by the county elections office by the time polls close at 8pm on Tuesday June 5.

This year could be different.

Lujan Grisham leads the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump and his immigration policies. And the election features high-profile Latino candidates running for nearly every statewide office.

For most of the campaign, Villaraigosa was seen as the most viable threat to Newsom's candidacy.

Democrat Alex Padilla, meanwhile, is looking to maintain his job as secretary of state. Almost 60 are running in California, according to the Center for Women and Politics at Rutgers University. This is Senator Menendez's first election since he faced corruption charges. Reynolds is Iowa's first female governor. Ditto for Delaine Eastin and Amanda Renteria if either were to overcome the long odds against them in male-dominated field of candidates for governor.

In spite of the bad press against Menendez, Hugin is still likely facing a tough battle to unseat the Democrat. Los Angeles County also tweeted out instructions to voters who might be experiencing the issue at their polling places.

Brown, whose four terms spread over more than four decades are the most in state history, has not endorsed a successor.

California Republicans hope to avoid another statewide shutout in the contest for governor. In that year, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger won his re-election bid and Steve Poizner became the state's insurance commissioner.

LoBiondo has represented the district since winning election in 1994.

"They can just type in their postal code and it'll let them know where the voting location is", Des Granges said.

The campaign against the gas tax is expected to be central to the Republicans' November campaign in California. As soon as the bill was signed into law, Republicans organized an effort to recall state Sen.
