There's also a new Walkie-Talkie app, which does exactly what it sounds like. "Apple Watch becomes an even stronger companion for fitness, communication and quick access to information with a host of new features including Activity Sharing competitions, auto-workout detection, advanced running features, Walkie-Talkie, Apple Podcasts and third-party apps on the Siri watch face".

Apple will release watchOS 5 as a free update for Apple Watch Series 1 and later, dropping the support for the original Apple Watch. For Pride Month, Apple is launching a rainbow colored watch face and watch band.

watchOS 5 will be out later this fall, hopefully with a new Apple Watch to go with it.

Another big change is that watchOS 5 supports WebKit.

Additionally, Apple Watch users will no longer need to say "Hey Siri" to address the digital assistant - and can instead just raise their wrist and begin issuing commands. You can now challenge your friends if they share their activity. If a user press start after actually beginning a workout, the new feature provides with retroactive credits for that same workout. The user is prompted to confirm the workout's end, however. New Workouts Yoga and Hiking join 12 other dedicated workout types, accurately tracking active calories burned and exercise minutes earned. A brand new metric - rolling mile pace - is introduced as an additional option for runners to see their pace for the immediately preceding mile in addition to their average pace or current pace. These types of challenges are incredibly popular with Fitbit users, and now you'll be able to challenge Apple Watch-wearing friends to 7-day activity competitions. It'll retroactively remember what you've done before you pressed yes, and then start the workout for you.

The Siri watch face, first introduced a year ago, brings a handful of the voice assistant's features right up front on your Apple Watch, providing your calendar, reminders and commute times.

The new Siri Shortcuts feature announced as part of iOS 12 will also be coming to the Siri watch face too. The new upgrade to the Activity app on Apple Watch is going to be right up your street. It'll work on both Wi-Fi and mobile internet, so it's not just limited to the Apple Watch 3 LTE. "We're thrilled with the positive impact Apple Watch is having on people's lives", said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer.

Developers are also getting a new feature that allows music, audiobooks and meditation sessions to be synced to the Apple Watch for offline playback.
