Kim Kardashian to ask Trump to pardon great-grandma serving life sentence for first-time drug offence

She arrived at the White House just on Wednesday afternoon, dressed in all black, for a meeting with Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, who oversees the administration's push to overhaul the nation's prison system.

Alice Marie Johnson is now serving a life sentence for a drug offence.

Let's get checking out a bunch of times Kylie Jenner proved she was the Queen of selfies. Reports emerged earlier this month that Kardashian West had been speaking with the White House couple since October to grant clemency for Johnson, who has been in federal prison for more than two decades for facilitating drug trafficking communications.

The entrepreneur has been advocating for a pardon for a drug offender named Alice Marie Johnson, who has served more than 20 years in prison for a first-time offense.

After Wednesday's visit to the White House, Kardashian West said she was feeling "optimistic" about how the meeting went.

Johnson's supporters say she has been a model prisoner.

Despite the serious nature of their discussion, Twitter users couldn't get over the fact that two former reality show stars were talking policy about an important issue like the U.S. war on drugs.

Trump later tweeted a photo with Kardashian in the Oval Office.

She added her reasons why she believes Johnson is a good candidate for clemency, citing her good behavior in prison and a supportive family and job waiting for her back home.

In a statement, Kim Kardashian thanked Trump. "Today is for you", Kardashian tweeted about Johnson before the meeting.

An online petition to grant clemency to Johnson, started by her daughter, now has more than 250,000 signatures.

But Kim has taken to the case of Ms Johnson recently after a video by media outlet Mic, highlighted the case of the great-grandmother.

Kardashian's husband, rapper Kanye West, sparked headlines last month after posting a series of tweets in which he praised Trump's "dragon energy" and showed off his signed "Make America Great Again" hat.
