'American Idol' Reboot Crowns New Winner on ABC

'American Idol' finale results take angry fans to social media to complain about the results

"American Idol" winner Maddie Poppe reveals she's dating finalist Caleb Lee Hutchinson

Singers Gabby Barrett, Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe are pictured with Ryan Seacrest in a still from part one of the "American Idol" two-night season finale.

Upon hearing the news that she had won, Poppe and Hutchinson embraced in a hug before he exited the stage. "I am honored to know you and even more honored to call you mine". And I thought, 'I have to get him in my group for Group Rounds!' I found him and asked him, 'Do you want to be in my group?' And we hung out pretty much every day since then. "I'm so disappointed in America's vote". I remember looking at her.

It was later time to find out the champion of current season of "American Idol". He said Caleb and Maddie are a couple! Well done, Caleb!" And another viewer defended Poppe as "talented, creative and an artist. ABC had promised to put its stamp on the show, which logged 15 seasons on Fox, and the new "Idol" is certainly less cynical than the Simon Cowell years. Things start winding down about an hour and 45 minutes into the show, with host Ryan Seacrest, Caleb and Maddie on stage.

Hutchinson performed his single and two classic country hits, "Don't Close Your Eyes" by Keith Whitley and "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash, for which he dressed totally in Cash's signature color of black for the performance Sunday night.

Shortly before the final results were announced, Hutchinson revealed that Poppe is his girlfriend, sending the audience screaming and swooning as the duo launched into a sweet, stripped-down take on Over the Rainbow. Then the two sang an adorable duet. Fan favourite Poppe was adjudged the victor by the show's star judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. American Idol's finale was full of love, surprises and fantastic performances - and it all came down to Maddie, a 20-year-old college student from Clarksville, IA, winning the title of "the next American Idol".

Along the way, he was mentored by radio personality Bobby Bones and musicians Nick Jonas, Bebe Rexha and Carrie Underwood.
