Instagram Brings New Payments Feature to Enable Direct Shopping on the App

Instagram quietly launches payments for commerce

After Messenger and Whatsapp, Facebook spotted testing Instagram payments feature to take on rival Snapchat

Furthermore, the feature aims to quickly open only a particular chat, meaning you will be able to open the chat window only for the person who you want to message on the platform.

Additionally, the 2.18.51 update also adds further support for group chats, including the ability to add/revoke admin privileges from other users and active admins can edit the description, icon, and subject of an ongoing chat. It is expected that the feature would be rolled out to Android phones as well very soon.

According to reports, the Instagram payments feature is visible to only select users in the U.S. and United Kingdom now.

The payments feature will enable the users of Instagram to shop directly on the app without having to leave it. The same can also be with Instagram or Facebook videos. Instagram is now making it possible for users to directly buy and pay for the product right inside the app. Customers can head directly to Resy's Instagram page to book a table. After that, they can start using the feature to make payments to third parties or book restaurants. As per reports, it may be rolled out within the next few months.

Facebook-owned Instagram has added in-app payments option that lets you make direct payments from the app. For additional security, the registered profile can also be locked with a security pin. Insta payments is not as diverse as WhatsApp.

Experts believe Instagram could become a major player in online retail - thanks to its focus on glossy shots of products and glamorous lifestyles - if the payment facility proves a success.

Instagram is known as a common space for sharing creative imagery, art, ideas and more - but it has potential to be a lot more. Snapchat's Snap Store is basically a merchandise store within the app that allows users to purchase things within the app. However, it did not declare anything about the introduction of new payment app at that time. They will automatically be directed to the chat. Furthermore, users will not only be able to make one-on-one calls and also engage in group conversations.

At Facebook's F8 developer conference, WhatsApp director Mubarik Imam announced that the platform will receive group video calling feature along with stickers.
