General manager Mike Maccagnan is ready to finalize his 2018 NFL Draft class with more players that should be able to provide quality depth and hopefully, be hidden gems that pan out well.

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller has Darnold as the No. 5 overall player on his big board, while Rosen checks in at No. 8. They trained together with Jordan Palmer... and Darnold has Allen and his girlfriend at his table.

It takes a while for a team to cash in on a trade with a team that jumped up into the top three of the NFL Draft to get their quarterback of the future.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said of Darnold: "I like his competitiveness".

The drafting of Mayfield takes out the potential trade up by the Miami Dolphins who had interest in the Oklahoma quarterback and 2017 Heisman Trophy victor. However, it has caused him to deal with some turnover issues as he threw 13 interceptions last season.

With the Jets, Darnold will be tutored by offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, who also held the same position at USC in 2009 during Pete Carroll's final season.

He joins what is suddenly a crowded quarterbacks room with Josh McCown, Teddy Bridgewater, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg also on the roster. He led USC to a victory over Penn State in the Rose Bowl, setting the game's record with five touchdown passes. "I'm just going to work as I usually do and I believe good things are going to come out of that".

"I think turning a franchise around is obviously a hard thing to do", Darnold said two months ago at the National Football League combine, "but I'm always accepting of a challenge". "That's what I've been doing my whole life, and I'm not going to do anything different".
