Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue painted saffron

BJP government saffronises BR Ambedkar's statue in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun

"The local unit of our organisation will give a memorandum to the Badaun district magistrate condemning the statue's colour and demand that it be painted blue". However, the statue was saffron rather than the usual blue. Later the Hajj House was repainted after much protest.

The move to install a saffron Ambedkar statue comes as the BJP appears to be going through a crisis in credibility with the dalit community. As per details by ANI, the statue has been re-painted blue by BSP Leader Himendra Gautam.

The statue was reportedly defaced last month and was replaced with a new one sculpted in Agra. According to the reports, the opposition accused the BJP of "saffronising" Ambedkar.

A day after its installations, many BSP leaders linked the saffron coat as the colour of Lord Buddha and garlanded the statue.

Recently, the Yogi government had kicked up another row when it had ordered for adding "Ramji" in the name of Dr Ambedkar in government correspondence and records. The new statue was installed on Monday after BR Ambedkar's statue in Dugraiyya village in the district was vandalised by unidentified people on Friday. But then BSP district president himself led a bunch of his supporters and repainted it blue.

After the Yogi Adityanath government came to power in UP a year back, several government buildings, offices and residences have been painted in saffron.

However, others like Kalicharan, the head of Ambedkar Suraksha Samiti, were not ready to accept the saffron colour. This has included using saffron paint for the chief minister's office, police stations and even public buses.
