On Tuesday reports circulated that Duke associate head coach Jeff Capel is expected to be hired as Pittsburgh's new head men's basketball coach.

"Pittsburgh just made an wonderful hire to lead its men's basketball program", Krzyzewski said in a press release. His relentless work ethic, passion for the game and clear vision of how to build a program capable of competing at the highest levels in the ACC and on the national stage are impressive.

Prior to becoming associate head coach at Duke, Capel was a head coach at Oklahoma from 2006 to 2011, and head coach at Virginia Commonwealth from 2002 to 2006. With Griffin in the team, the Sooners made the second round of NCAA Tournament in Capel's second season at the helm and then followed that up by making the Elite 8 the following year. At Duke, Capel was a four-year starter.

Capel has been instrumental in luring talent away from Kentucky and other top schools in recent years, most notably the 2018 recruiting class that includes R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson, and Cam Reddish.

"I am honored to be named the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball program", said Capel. In all, he has coached 13 first-round NBA Draft picks.

"Pitt has a great tradition of success and I look forward to putting together a staff and team that will enable us to build on that tradition", Capel said in a statement. But Capel has been a successful head coach, with at least 18 wins in six of his first seven seasons (overlapping VCU and Oklahoma) and a.614 overall winning percentage if you give back the vacated wins from 2009-10.

"Jeff Capel is one of the most dynamic coaches in the country", Krzyzewski said. "I look forward to building outstanding relationships with the leadership team at Pitt as well as with the numerous individuals who will help shape our program". I'm not sure what makes Capel such a solid recruiter but this definitely makes an impact on both Duke and Kentucky's future recruiting. Nine Panthers players requested a transfer after the season. The 43-year-old Capel has a 162-110 career record.
