Following the broadcast of his Idol audition on Sunday, Benjamin Glaze said he did not consent to the "uncomfortable" kiss judge Perry planted on him without permission. Now, several months after the audition, the singer is opening up about the encounter that left him feeling "a tad bit uncomfortable".
"I wanted to save it for my first relationship", he said. The "unwanted kiss" has been receiving some backlash on social media for its predatory nature, while others considered the teenager lucky for kissing the "I Kissed a Girl" singer. He made it little more than 30 seconds into his audition song before Perry stopped him; she and fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Ritchie ultimately rejected him.
She kissed a boy. He plants one on her cheek, but Perry seemed disappointed there wasn't an audible "smoosh-sound", so Glaze agrees to start over, and just as he goes in for it, Perry turns to face him and Glaze's lips meet her own.
Katy waved him over and said, "Come here". However, after a joke about Perry's 2008 smash hit "I Kissed a Girl" led Glaze to reveal he had never done said deed, Perry ended up unexpectedly planting one on him. "No, I've never been in a relationship. I wanted my first kiss to be special.I wanted to save it for my first relationship".
Do YOU think Katy crossed the line by kissing the contestant? "I know a lot of guys would be like, 'Heck yeah!' But for me, I was raised in a conservative family and I was uncomfortable immediately". On the American Idol website, Mr. Glaze's performance is posted under the headline, "Benjamin Glaze's First Kiss and Audition".
So far, Perry hasn't responded to the chatter, but she did post a gif of Mickey and Minnie Mouse smooching on her page after the show aired. "They agreed with me that it didn't really count [as the first]".
"It was lip contact versus a romantic situation with someone you care about", he said. Now he's saying it upset his first kiss plans.
