Cuonzo Martin: Porter Jr. will play for Mizzou in SEC Tourney opener

Gateway Getaway: Everything Missouri fans need to know ahead of the SEC men's basketball tournament

Can we at least get an answer?

The Tigers will play the victor of Vanderbilt-Georgia. It toppled Georgia 68-56 in Columbia in January, and Vanderbilt 74-66 on the road last week. I'm not putting this all on him, however. Canisius has an enrollment of 3,171, while Mizzou's enrollment is almost 10 times larger (30,870). Porter would've had them in a different stratosphere most likely, but seniors Kassius Robertson and Jordan Barnett have done an outstanding job carrying the team. No, he didn't get the start-he entered with 17:22 remaining in the first half. However, Maten dominated in the SEC tournament leading all players with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

But he missed the next three games to end the regular season.

It's all very complicated, and Missouri did the selection committee no favors Thursday. The Scottrade Center hosts approximately 175 events per year.

Georgia will take on Kentucky on Friday in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament.

Martin landed in Missouri after three seasons at the University of California. And to say foul trouble crept into the game early doesn't adequately emphasize the overwhelming onslaught of calls that went against the Tigers-the zebras were using their whistles more than the lifeguards at a public pool.

Sources told ESPN multiple National Basketball Association executives believe Porter should make an attempt to play in the SEC or NCAA tournaments.

Robertson has led Mizzou in scoring 16 times.

Freshman forward Jontay Porter was selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team, and also tabbed as Co-Sixth Man of the Year, by the league's coaches.

Porter's return will make Missouri a unsafe team in the NCAA Tournament. Michael Dixon and Matt Lawrence received the award from the Big 12 Conference for the 2011-12 and 2008-09 seasons, respectively. During his high school career, he averaged 36.2 points 13.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists, according to ESPN, who listed him as their No. 1 high school recruit.

When Michael Porter Jr. checked into a college basketball game for the first time since November 10th, there was no score.

After finishing the regular season with a 20-11 record, Missouri is now projected as a No. 8 seed in the NCAA tournament by ESPN's Joe Lunardi.

Martin leads Mizzou into the postseason with seven available scholarship players and eight total.

Martin played Porter in bursts of a few minutes at a time, getting him plenty of rest on the bench. But after Missouri tied the game at 39 with 14:11 to go in the half, Georgia responded by hit four of its next six shots and extending the lead back to nine on a jumper by Rayshaun Hammonds with just over eight minutes to go.
