Police said Davidson, a 53-year-old social studies teacher, is accused of barricading himself inside a classroom at Dalton High School and firing the weapon, sending some students running and others hiding on Wednesday.

Police say a teacher who barricaded himself in a classroom and fired a shot has been taken into custody. A teacher since 2004, Davidson also serves as the play-by-play announcer for the high school's football team. The proposal faced significant backlash, particularly from teachers who said they should not have to shoulder this responsibility and from students who did not want more guns inside their schools.

The professor, identified as Jesse Randal Davidson, would have pointed away from any person, and the police have not yet determined the reasons for his behavior that led to the immediate evacuation of the institution.

Davidson faces several charges, including reckless conduct and bringing a gun on school grounds. She tweeted that such claims are disrespectful, and "I don't think I or any of my classmates were in for a plan to risk our lives in our own school".

Details of the previous questioning emerged just days after Davidson put Dalton High School on lockdown.

Students of the class took to social media to talk about the episode, including Chondi Chastain, who told the AP that she was planned to have Davidson's class later that evening.

Police found a "threatening" note on the floor of a classroom at the Dalton High School last week authorities said, but it wasn't clear if it was related to Thursday's incident.

Frazier said there was no evidence that Davidson was trying to fire at anyone.

The incident occurred at Dalton High School in Dalton, Georgia.

It is unclear what caused theincident, but the teacher had been instructing a class right before it started, Frazier said. When the principal tried to unlock the door, they heard a gunshot inside and the school was evacuated.

"Anyone who knows him can tell you he's no danger", Tania Ramirez, a 10th grade student said.

Dade County Sheriff's Sgt. Chad Payne told the Times Free Press on Friday that officers later turned over the rifles to Davidson's wife.

That being said, the latest reports out of the White House show that Trump on Wednesday repeatedly embraced a series of gun control measures to the "surprise of many", says the New York Times.

Student Emma Jacobs texted her mother while she hid inside a darkened classroom, said her mother, Annmarie Jacobs.

On March 21, 2016, the teacher confessed that two friends killed a woman at his behest.

Dalton teacher accused of firing a handgun in his classroom had three rifles taken away after setting the family auto ablaze at his home two years ago, according to a sheriff's report obtained Friday by The Associated Press.
