Snapchat had proudly announced this change late previous year, and was hoping that the UI refresh will help it not only retain its users, but help it attract some new ones over.
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel recently reiterated the company's commitment to stick with the new design in an appearance at a Goldman Sachs investor event, where he told critics that they were proving the company right. Sourced from Giphy, the new feature allows users to add GIFs to their Snapchat stories. Also, Snapchat will get a new feature called Tabs, which will help users in organising and seeing the Stories they wish to.
"The new Friends page will adapt to you and get smarter over time, reflecting who you're most likely to be Snapping with at that moment". Snapchat has published a response to this petition, saying that it "understands" that the new update "has felt uncomfortable for many".
Users will be able to sort Stories, group chats, and subscriptions, to enable "further customization of the app". Now, there's a designated page for publishers and celebrities, and a separate page for friends.
If you haven't noticed by now, the recent redesign launched for Snapchat hasn't gone over very well. Users have complained about this change, and said it's also more hard to find posts from friends you communicate with less frequently. Spiegel also noted, however, that Snapchat is "constantly monitoring the rollout of the redesign and making improvements based on what we learn from our community and their usage of Snapchat", and this design tweak seems to fall into that category. "Some of the complaints we are seeing are reinforcing our philosophy", he said. "Exactly. They're not your friend". In 2008, Facebook dramatically redesigned its site, sparking backlash.
"How about you quit telling us what you think we'll like and change it back to the way you know we all like".
