Borno state police spokesman Joseph Kwaji said on Saturday that the attack happened on Friday night.

A witness said the three bombers simultaneously blew themselves up in the crowded market.

"There were many people there frying bean cake (kose/akara), yams and other consumables", said the CP.

The bombers, all believed to be female, also wounded dozens at the fish market in Konduga, just outside the state capital of Maiduguri.

Earlier this week, the military warned residents of possible attacks by Boko Haram in cities and towns.

The blast was targeted at Kasuwan Kifi village in Konduga local government area of the state.

The source, who is a member of the SEMA evacuation team, said the suicide bombers carried out the attack at about 9:30 pm.
