The route scheduled to have been followed by the Congress president-who is visiting his parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh for the first time after becoming party chief-was changed in view of strong protests by BJP workers.

Rahul Gandhi is in Amethi and Congress leaders are leaving no stone unturned to impress their boss.

In Amethi also, Rahul Gandhi had to face angry protesters at Rajiv Gandhi Chowk because of which he could not garland the statue of his father.

Rahul Gandhi had visited around 20 temples across Gujarat during the Assembly poll campaign as part of a conscious approach to counter the ruling BJP.

Narendra Singh is a local Congress leader, police officials said. In one of the posters, Congress workers described Rahul as Lord Ram and Modi Ravana and predicted "Rahul Raj" in 2019.

The minister claimed that Rahul's first visit to UP as Congress chief had proved to be a flop show.

In another poster, the Congress president was eulogised as Lord Krishna running the chariot with Arjuna during a battle in Mahabharata. He said that potato farmers of UP would not have been suffering if BJP had not stalled the Mega Food Park in Amethi. "We will set-up the Food Park and finish other projects started by the Congress government", he promised. He also held a conversation with local people to take political pulse of the area.

As the Congress chief's convoy was leaving Salon, which falls in the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency but is in Rae Bareli district, for his next stop, Parshderpur, some BJP workers raised slogans against him.

People were standing in long queues since early morning to meet him.

He will tomorrow visit Mushafirkhana, Gauriganj, Jais, Jagdishpur town.
