Journalist Michael Wolff's searing assessment of Donald Trump's presidency has raised questions about the President's fitness to serve, and prompted some to consider a "25th Amendment solution". He called his comments to Wolff "grotesque".

His comments came as Steve Bannon, the former White House aide who gives damaging quotes in the book, expressed regret at the comments attributed to him.

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 6, President of the United States (on my first try). "I am the only person to date to conduct a global effort to preach the message of Trump and Trumpism; and remain ready to stand in the breach for this president's efforts to make America great again".

"I would have been delighted to have written a contrarian account here: Donald Trump, this unexpected President is actually going to succeed", Mr Wolff said.

Mr Wolff says his book is based on more than 200 interviews with the President and his senior staff over an 18-month period.

He also claimed that the book was a "work of fiction".

Jake Tapper Sunday morning interview with White House adviser Stephen Miller got so heated that the CNN reporter had to cut the talk short.

During the interview, Miller characterized the new book about the Trump administration, "Fire and Fury, " which was released January 5, as "a work of very poorly written fiction".

He said his reference to "treason" had not been aimed at the presidents son, but at another campaign official who attended the 2016 Trump Tower meeting, Paul Manafort. "He should have known they are duplicitous, cunning and not our friends". Many in the president's circle had been urging Trump for weeks to publicly distance himself from Bannon and used the fallout from the book to persuade the president to sever ties with him.

My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda - as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama. "Now I have to put up with a Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author", he tweeted.

Now that Russian collusion, after one year of intense study, has proven to be a total hoax on the American public, the Democrats and their lapdogs, the Fake News Mainstream Media, are taking out the old Ronald Reagan playbook and screaming mental stability and intelligence.

"I saw a man who is a political genius", Miller said, adding that as a candidate, Trump had "tapped into something magical that is happening in the heart of this country".

United States president Donald Trump and his aides have hit back at speculation about the president's mental health as controversy over an explosive book on his presidency continued over the weekend. I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star.

But the conversation around the 25th Amendment has circulated on Capitol Hill even before the book's publication. But Trump was eager for the last word.

Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin has proposed a bill to set up a Congressional body to evaluate the President's fitness for office.

He then pivoted to attack CNN's "anti-Trump" news coverage.
