So this wasn't what we were expecting..
"Filthy" began trending on Twitter soon after the track and its music video dropped at midnight, as the pop superstar's followers turned it up en masse.
Filthy is the first single from Justin's upcoming fifth studio album, Man of the Woods.
Titled "Filthy", the song is an attempt at sounding futuristic in a George Michael 'Freeek!' type of way - sadly nowhere near as good - produced by both Timbaland and Danja. "It's fantastic", tweeted one fan.
The 10-time Grammy victor released the first track, Filthy, from the album today (Jan 5), and it has been met with a mixed reaction.
It's also been confirmed that the record will feature Pharrell Williams' the Neptunes, Timbaland, Alicia Keys and country singer Chris Stapleton.
The music video - directed by Mark Romanek - follows a Steve Jobs-esque JT as he reveals a prototype of a dancing robot during a Malaysian learning conference. When he dances, it dances.
The album will have 16 songs and Justin will release three more tracks before the full album comes out on Super Bowl weekend.
"This song should be played very loud", Justin told fans via the single artwork.
