PM Narendra Modi addresses last Mann Ki Baat of 2017

In His Last Mann Ki Baat Address of 2017, PM Modi Pitches For New India, Speaks About Cleanliness

"We have also made provisions so that Muslim women do not have to wait for permission to go to Haj".

Modi suggested that youths in the age group of 18 to 25 organise a "mock parliament" in every district and brainstorm about a new India. "On this day we remember the teachings of Lord Jesus Christ, and the thing we remember the most was his teachings on service", Modi said in 2017's last edition of his radio programme "Mann Ki Baat".

Speaking about the change in the Haj rules, he said, "It had come to our notice that if a Muslim woman wants to go on Haj, she must have a "Mehram" or a male guardian, otherwise she can not travel, it was discriminatory, we have changed this rule and this year around 1300 women applied to go without a male guardian".

Modi also spoke about Anjum Bashir Khan Khattak, who extricated from sting of terrorism and hatred and topped in Kashmir Administrative Examination. Otherwise, she can not travel, it was discriminatory. "Usually there is a lottery system for selection of Haj pilgrims but I would like that single women pilgrims should be excluded from this lottery system and they should be given a chance as a special category", the PM said in his Mann Ki Baat address. It was way back in 1990's when militants burned down Anjum Bashir's ancestral house in Surankote, Poonch which forced the family to move to Jammu. "I was amazed at spirit that they had, the enthusiasm that was there in their hearts and dreams they nurtured", he added.

"As a child, Anjum never gave up hope". He chose a different path, a path of serving the people, he said. "He overcame the adverse situation and scripted his own success story".

India's PM also delivered his inaugural address for the 85th Sivagiri Pilgrimage Celebrations via video conference, during which he brought up the issue of instant triple talaq - a practice that allows men to divorce their wives instantly. "You too can be the makers of 21st century India and this opportunity comes into being, very specially, on the 1st of January", he said.

He added: "This time, not one but 10 chief guests will grace the Republic Day. On January 26, the arrival of great leaders of 10 nations of the world as a unit is a matter of pride for all Indians".
