Patriots rout Jets to clinch No. 1 seed in AFC playoffs

Quarterback Tom Brady and Coach Bill Belichick have led the Patriots to 15 division titles in the past 17 seasons. It's not always flashy and sometimes it's controversial but they always seem to get the job done

The path to the Super Bowl in the AFC goes through New England. Once the day was done, Lewis had 93 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries while picking up another 40 yards on six receptions.

Some may have looked at this season finale as one that wasn't very important, and a lot of fans believed the New England Patriots should have sat their starters.

Tom Brady completed 18 of 37 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns in conditions that, with the wind chill, were sub-zero. That wasn't necessarily true, though-with home-field advantage on the line, the Pats knew that it was extremely important for them to win this game and stay at home throughout the AFC playoffs.

The New York Jets should be no different.

This game against the Jets won't be the coldest ever played at Gillette Stadium. Brady and the offense went to work, quickly moving 75 yards in just 13 plays to take a 7-0 lead on a 3-yard TD run by Lewis.

Gostkowski's 21-yard field goal extended the margin to 24-3 in the third quarter, and Eric Lee's fourth-quarter safety made it 26-6. New England got into the end zone three plays later via another 5-yard TD pass, this time from Brady to Lewis. They had a playoff games that was colder - a divisional round game against the Tennessee Titans on January 10, 2004, when it was 4 degrees with a wind chill that made it feel like minus 10. It's no secret that players love Bowles and his style of coaching and since they don't have to worry about him getting fired or anything at season's end, it should undoubtedly fire them up to win a big game for their coach when the odds are completely against them. Cooks and the Patriots have a first-round bye to open the playoffs.
