A Winter Weather Advisory (purple-shaded area on highlighted map) is in effect from noon until midnight Friday for most of northern IL into northwest Indiana. Snow showers will quickly move in and steadily fall through the evening commute. Saturday will see another high in the mid-20s.
The winter weather is expected to cause some travel difficulties, including snow-covered roads and limited visibility at times. "Locally some spots could see closer to 5". "Generally, 1" to 3" of snow will be possible by early Saturday morning.

The temperatures are likely to stay below zero the entire weekend with overnight lows bottoming out at 20 to 30 below zero.
Bittery cold artic air with single digit temperatures is expected across the day.
The next chance for accumulating snowfall looks to be Thursday into Friday, so we'll be keeping an eye on that system as we get closer. The advisory will begin today at 2 p.m. EST and is scheduled to expire by 4 a.m. EST Saturday.
