Pakistan recalls Azhar Ali for ODI series vs New Zealand

Pakistan squad announced for tour of New Zealand

PCB announces squad for New Zealand tour

Pakistan are missing some regular faces but still look ready to offer a strong challenge to New Zealand when their short-form tour starts early next month.

Even though Pakistan lost both the ODI (2-0) and T20I (2-1) series when they visited New Zealand during the 2015-16 season, Azhar feels that encounter was much closer than the final scoreline suggests.

It should be mentioned here that Muhammad Nawaz has replaced Imad Wasim.

Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali believes the ousted bowler Mohammad Asif can make a comeback to the national side once again. Azhar Ali has been recalled to the squad after being dropped for the series against Sri Lanka at home.

Fast bowler Junaid Khan has been ruled out of the New Zealand ODIs because of a fracture in his right foot, and Imad failed a fitness test after reporting discomfort in his knee.

Their last match against New Zealand was at Eden Park on January 31 previous year, when they lost to the hosts by three wickets.

Azhar Ali bats during the ICC Champions Trophy match between India and Pakistan at Edgbaston on June 4, 2017 in Birmingham. "It will not be easy [to defeat New Zealand in New Zealand]. Even during our last tour we nearly managed to win two matches there", he said while speaking to DAWN on Sunday.

Azhar vowed to help the team out in any way he can, saying: "I'll try and play the way the team wants me to and according to the situation".

"We have been doing good in limited over Cricket and I have no doubt that team will win the series in Sri Lanka as well", Hafeez said.

"Asif has a lot of experience. He may not have the same pace but there is still a lot of variation in his repertoire".
