Three dead in shooting at New Mexico high school

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office said there was an active shooter at Aztec High School in New Mexico

He said the shooter also was dead but didn't say if the suspect was among the three.

Families of the shooting victims have already been notified, Bryce Current, an official with the San Juan Sheriff's Office told reporters.

Though the shooting at Aztec High School was confirmed by the San Juan County Sheriff's Office, there are still conflicting number of casualties. Authorities in New Mexico said on Twitter that the shooter was among the the deceased.

Deputies are asking everyone to avoid the area as emergency crews work the scene.

The Bloomfield Police Department is asking parents to stay away from the school until further notice.

The city of Aztec is located in the northwest corner of New Mexico and has a population of almost 7,000 people.

Aztec High School is about 180 miles northwest of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

We are aware that there was a shooting at Aztec High School.

Other schools in the area also were locked down, and authorities were setting up staging areas where parents could gather and wait for more information.
