Brooks, 55, previously discussed the possibility of lip-syncing at awards shows in 2015, telling SiriusXM that he had prerecorded a live version of All-American Kid ahead of the Academy of Country Music Awards as a precaution, in case his voice wasn't in fighting shape.
The 55-year-old legendary musician, who is now touring, lip-synced his performance of "Ask Me How I Know" earlier in the evening, and after picking up his prize he told reporters backstage that he wasn't well and it was necessary.

Speaking backstage, Brooks said according to PEOPLE: "We're in the middle of 12 shows in 10 days. Not 10 shows in 12 days, 12 shows in 10 days", said Brooks while clutching his latest hardware. "My voice just isn't going anywhere, and we wanted to represent country music the best we can".
