The only person standing in its way is Trump who-as President of the United States-has the power to block the files' release as stipulated by the law.

Thousands of classified papers related to the Kennedy assassination must be published under U.S. law by Thursday.

"Thank you. This is the correct decision". In a recent interview with KMA News, Grassley said he didn't know whether the documents would legitimize any of the multitude of conspiracy theories connected to JFK's assassination.

Ironically perhaps, the release of the documents was in part motivated by the 1991 Oliver Stone movie "JFK", which questioned the roles US intelligence agencies may have played in the assassination. According to the Washington Post, government agencies have asked the president not to release some of the documents.

What are the JFK files?

"The State Department and the CIA convinced us that if we released the details of the intelligence sharing arrangement with the Mexican government that it was likely to bring down the Mexican government at the time because the same party was in charge of the government", Tunheim explained.

Sabato and other JFK scholars believe the trove of files may, however, provide insight into assassin Lee Harvey Oswald's trip to Mexico City weeks before the killing, during which he visited the Soviet and Cuban embassies. Lee Harvey Oswald shouldn't have been a country mile of the presidential motorcade.

Longtime Trump friend Roger Stone, who wrote a book alleging that Johnson was the driving force behind Kennedy's assassination, had personally urged the president to make the files public, he told far-right conspiracy theorist and radio show host Alex Jones this past week.

"Why? Because I believe they show that Oswald was trained, nurtured and put in place by the Central Intelligence Agency".

After the president announced his decision, Stone tweeted: "Yes! victory!"

Despite serious questions about the official inquest, and theories purporting that organized crime, Cuba or a cabal of US security agents was involved, conspiracy theorists have yet to produce conclusive proof Oswald acted in consort with anyone.

Ted has called BS on the story in the past - but now with Trump pledging to release all of the JFK docs, his family could be vindicated once and for all. and Ted seems excited.

"There will be a request made to the President to withhold documents, absolutely no question about that".
