Apple's iPhone X will be in short supply when it launches in November, with only 2-3 million units shipping from factories before launch, the KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote in a research note on Thursday. The year 2017 will have Apple meeting its projected sales although it may face slight difficulties in selling this iPhone in 2018.
The last time Apple announced preorder numbers for its most advanced phone, in 2014, it said it saw 4 million preorders in the first 24 hours - so the iPhone X is going to be very hard to find at launch. "For example, most of the people that we speak to in the USA, and a common theme during our China Tech Tour, is that consumers are waiting on the iPhone X. Moreover, we believe the iPhone 7/7 Plus is benefitting from incremental demand as consumers can take advantage of the recent price cuts in light of the iPhone 8/8 Plus introduction", White contends, confident as ever ahead of the titan's iPhone X cycle.
But Kuo, who is tapped into Apple's Asian supply chain, says the worst production issues will be over soon. The Company's products and services include iPhone, iPad, Mac, iPod, Apple TV, a portfolio of consumer and professional software applications, the iOS and OS X operating systems, iCloud, and a variety of accessory, service and support offerings.
Not to mention that the current iPhone X will likely remain in Apple's lineup once the 2018 models are launched.
Earlier, the TrueDepth camera was indicated as the source of the troubles, but analyst firm KGI reports this issue has been solved (it was the dot projector that caused headaches).
The second most troublesome component is the PCB for the wide-angle camera.
But for investors, this may simply push the "super cycle" boom of iPhone sales one quarter later. After all, iPhones are still expensive, and the most affordable 2018 iPhone X might still be costly.
"The question will be is how much of the iPhone X activity happens in Q4 versus Q1 of next year, and we will kind of be prepared for either overall", he continued.

The iPhone X also features a new kind of OLED display and Apple claims it has two hours of extra battery life compared to the iPhone 7.
As part of the agreement, GE will standardize on Apple for mobile devices, and also promote Mac as a choice for its global workforce of more than 330,000 employees, while Apple will in turn promote GE's Predix as its industrial IoT analytics platform of choice.
