NY wide receiver Brandon Marshall was carted off the field with a left ankle injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Chargers, and fellow Giants receiver Sterling Shepard injured his left ankle a few plays earlier and also had to be helped off the field.

Beckham had previously missed the team's season opener with a left ankle injury.

Beckham Jr. clearly had tears in his eyes while being taken off the field, signaling the possible severity of this injury. The Giants lead the Los Angeles Chargers, also without a win through four games, 9-7 late in the second quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Beckham went up for a catch before being pulled to the ground and twisting in awkward direction. Could squeaking out a win against the similarly very bad, fellow winless Charger ever erase all the things wrong with the Giants exposed this season, ever replace the frustration and despair of these dashed expectations with hope for something better?
