Confirming the killing, Army's Northern Command in Udhampur said, "Two militants were killed in an encounter with police army and CRPF in Khudwani, Kulgam". Militants soon fired at the patrolling officials, to which they fired back, and soon neutralized two of the active terrorists, while a third surrendered, and has been arrested.
Soldiers and special police forces surrounded a neighbourhood in Khudwani, a village in the south of Indian-administered Kashmir, after a tip-off about the presence of militants.
Following surrender of a terrorist and an (overground worker) OGW, security forces in joint appeal asked the terrorists to surrender to join the mainstream.
Inspector General of Police Muneer Khan along with Inspector General of CRPF Zulfikar Hassan and GoC Victor Force Major General B S Raju addressed the press meet.
According to initial reports, one more terrorist has also been arrested.
Later the two slain terrorists were identified as Dawood Ahmed Ali and Shaiyar Ahmed Wani of Hijbul Mujahideen whereas the terrorist who surrendered before the security forces as Arief Sofi. "The fire was retaliated and during the ensuing encounter both the terrorists were neutralized", the spokesman said. An AK-47and an INSAS rifle has been recovered from the encounter site.
